An Inclusive Online Singing Group
The Virtual Songbirds is a free online singing group started in 2020 by Peter Muir, Ph.D. Its mission is to create and nurture a compassionate, inclusive, altruistic community of singers who prioritize the emotional and social aspects of music-making.
WHO CAN JOIN?
Our membership is international and we welcome anyone anywhere who loves sing, regardless of skill level or experience. We particularly welcome people with disabilities of any type, those housebound for any reason, or simply anyone that wants to be part of our growing community of singers.
OUR REPERTOIRE
We sing a varied repertoire of Tin Pan Alley, Broadway, folk songs, sixties pop, special healing songs and more. Much of our repertoire is familiar, and all of it is easy to learn and satisfying to sing. We provide easy-to-read texts and sheet music of all material, and there is a new song every week.
WHEN?
The Songbirds currently meets once a week via Zoom on Tuesdays 7-8pm EST.
COST?
There is no charge for the Songbirds.

Director and Founder
The Songbirds’ founder and director is Peter Muir, Ph.D. An international performer, Peter was inspired to start the group by his lifelong involvement in using music for health. “Research has consistently shown that singing has profound benefits for health,” he says, “yet regular choral groups are not a good fit for so many people because of the emphasis on perfection. In nature, birds and whales just sing – they don’t worry about whether they’re on pitch or have the rhythm right. Why can’t we approach human singing that way?” For more on Peter, see his website www.PeterMuir.com
